Is it just me or did tonight's episode seem really slow? It felt like they were dragging out some scenes (Clana in the barn, the last Lexana scene) to fill in the time. I also kept expecting Hydro girl to reappear since the collision with the car had only turned her back to water. I didn't see why that should have killed her.

I really hope Lana is truly done looking back. That is just getting too repetitious. I'm still expecting them to make the final rift over the death of the baby and, perhaps, Lana. Which is such a shame when they had more substantial, less cliched options.

My favorite part was Chloe's speech about people expecting her to keep their secrets but not anyone else's. I also liked the Clark as Green arrow scene, but I think it would have been funnier if she had critiqued his kissing instead of complimenting it.

They had an opportunity with this episode to make the point of respecting privacy and secrets. They could have played off Lois's claim that secrets were a form of lying, Hydro girl's invasions, and Lana's insistence that she be told everything, against Chloe's speech and the need to protect Oliver's identity for his protection. The pieces were there but they were all muddled and didn't carry across as a coherent theme.

But I guess missed opportunities is a given with Smallville.

I don't think Linda Lake is supposed to be dead. I think they showed the water draining into the sewer to say that she's now going to be one of those villains out there lurking in the shadows for Superman to have to battle again. She couldn't come back as herself because Chloe had pretty much pegged that she was responsible for the sport's dude's death.

Other than that, I was a little shocked that the A plot of the episode was over 47 minutes into it. I just knew the last few scenes would focus on Lana. *snore*

I saw the water drip away, so I was expecting her to return to go after Chloe (although I think it would be hard to convince the police that she had been involved in the drowning). Chloe and Lana sounded convinced that she was dead when they should have been wary. I guess I'll put that down to script weakness.

I hadn't realized that this was another LL character. But she wasn't a romantic interest for Clark. That sets a dangerous precedent.

I also hadn't realized that this was TW's directorial debut. It wasn't terrible, but maybe that was part of the pacing problem. Aside from their placement after the close of the A plot, the Clana and Lexana scenes themselves dragged.

Actually, this was TW's second turn in the director's chair. He did an episode last year. It was, ummm... I think the one with the little girl who could control glass? Fragile, was it? I think that was it.

Oh, ditto! Great point about the dropped ball on what they could have ultimately said about keeping secrets, too.
