My dh's theory is that people are too lazy to go for the extra syllable in "woman."

I really do think it's a rhythm thing. If only there were a single-syllable synonym for "woman" that wasn't insulting. "Batbroad"? "Super Skirt"? "Dream Dame"?

I suppose Batgirl was supposed to be comparable to The Boy Wonder. Weren't they about the same age?
