Exposed

I liked this episode more than I expected to. The Dukes references were relatively mild. In fact, by Smallville standards they were extremely mild. The pole dancing scene was not painful. In fact, I actually liked how both Clark and Lois portrayed their discomfort.

I particularly liked that they avoided having Lex be cartoon bad guy politician . it would have been so easy for them to go there. They even had a retro Lex-uses-history-to-teach-Clark moment.

Lots of Chloe is always good. Also Clark in cuffs.

On the bad side:

Hollywood needs to figure out how diplomatic immunity works. Yes they don't bother going after people for parking tickets. But for major crimes the US would go to the foreign consulate and ask for them to turn the perp over for trial. And in the unlikely event the consul didn't, the perp would be expelled and there would probably be a diplomatic incident over it. You can't just wander around killing people just because you have diplomatic immunity.

Another reference to Lana's (sudden) interest in Astronomy. It occurred to me that there could be a plot reason for this: either the second meteor shower or the alien ship could have sparked the interest. But what bugs me is that no one has noticed this is a brand new passion. If they mean for it to be character development, then they should have people recognize it is something new. For example have her say she's switching to Met U because of astronomy because of the meteor shower (she says, tho it's really the ship) instead of making it seem like the astronomy interest has been there all along and only the college switch is new.

The idea of Bo Kent running for state Senate is laughable. Even ignoring the fact that he is a pompous twit, he is a poor farmer with no name recognition outside of Smallville and no political experience. Even if Luke throws him his support, he should not be able to get enough resources to have even a long shot at winning. Hopefully, this will be a very short arc and won't last past elections next week.

I'm not sure how I feel about the Lexana foreshadowing in the King David story.

Was Lana even in this episode? Maybe that is why it wasn't so bad.

The foreign guy's bodyguard was a little slow. But at least he had one. Is there only one bodyguard in all of Kansas?

The state senate thing from Lex AND Jonathan makes me laugh. Jonathan wouldn't go for that kind of public exposure because of Clark. Lex has Fine on his ass right now. Do either of them want to tempt fate?

It took me a bit to catch on that Lana was interested in astronomy due to the alien ship thing. What annoys me is that Clark hasn't offered to do anything with her about astronomy, since that's one thing he's been into since the pilot.

The diplomatic immunity made me laugh. Especially since Chloe was so easily able to get it taken care of. At least *she* has a clue!

Lex has Fine on his ass right now.

(If only that were true!)

Lex said he'd been planning this for months, so maybe he didn't want to back out just because Fine started hassling him?
