As [livejournal.com profile] latxcvi describes here and others, too, have lamented, I became interested in Smallville because I wanted to see Clark's and Lex's journey's to their respective ends. AlMiles claimed that was what the show was about and, for a while, it seemed to go that way. However, for some time they have been letting Clark assume his role, rather than grow into it.

This season, in Crusade and Transference, they introduced a set of Kryptonian artifacts, that lead to some store of knowledge. The common belief is that together they create the Fortress. What if AlMiles have completely given up on having Clark's journey be one of character growth? Or if they never intended it? What if it is just a treasure hunt? Find all the pieces, become a superhero. That certainly seems to be the the direction they are going.

What a disappointment!

Ick, I hope not. Or worse, find all the pieces, get the AI mindwhammy and *think* you must be a superhero.

Right now, there is no compelling "why" for Clark to become Superman. And if there is a Season 5 (a big if, IMO) that's when they need to show the impetus leading to Clark's choice of becoming Superman.

If it is a choice. Hmmm...
