That was relatively decent ... for an episode of Smallville. I loved the Clark - Chloe interaction. I was worried they were going for the usual complete reset at the end, but at least they had Chloe tell Clark she had trusted him when he lost his memory. If it were any other show I'd believe they were going to follow up on that.

For all the broo-ha-ha about Chloe's warning about Lex in the preview, it turned out to be no worse than her concern about leaving Clark with Lois: he might give something away to anyone who didn't already know.

While the Clana was annoying, to me it underscored the shallowness of their relationship, and of AlMiles's affection for Lana: Clark remembered nothing about her, but felt immediate physical attraction leading to "premature combustion" (heh) on which basis he wants to resume their relationship. If only I could believe they weren't going to follow up on that.

I didn't find Lex's manipulation of Clark a big shift in his "evilness" quotient. He has always valued knowledge and been willing to use other people to get it. Just as he wanted to take advantage of Chloe in Truth, he takes advantage of Clark here. Sure, it's Clark, but he has good reason to suspect Clark has been lying about the caves and the stones. Plus, as Lex implies in their last scene together, Clark took advantage of Lex's own memory loss for his own purposes. I'm not saying that what Lex did wasn't wrong, just that it was neither EVIL nor an indication of a big change in character.

Next week: a baby! How many times have they jumped the shark this season alone? (Let's see: Lois, body swap, witches, marriage ....)

But, finally! A new episode of Lost.

Have to disagree on this one. Lex has been sliding for a while but after Onyx, I think the slope got a lot steeper. When he went to the barn and took info about the cave after getting Clark to the caves under somewhat false pretenses and when he said I'm giving this info to the world then suddenly backtracked to say "eventually" in Ageless, it occured to me that maybe Lex's two halves never reintegrated fully. They sit there, popping forward then retreating from time to time and Lex doesn't realize it. Lex thinks it's all for the good and doesn't even notice the compartmentalization that's going on.

Are you finding the summer lull as difficult as I am? I miss new episodes of both Lost and Smallville - though I really don't know what to expect next year. The mind boggles.

As the summer goes by I find I'm feeling both hope and impatience.
